Day One of Nationals

Hey everyone!!!!

We are officially done with the first day of our national golf championship! It's really cool because it's the most official tournament I've ever played in. Makes sense, seeing that it's nationals. You get your name announced whenever you tee off, and you have to report your scores every 3 holes in order to keep the live leaderboard up to date.

It was a great day here in Florida, and I'm so glad we had early morning tee times because it just gets sooo hot down here and we're used to normal old Cleveland weather. I'm trying not to get burnt and failing. Thankfully I'm not burnt too bad so that's okay.

My crazy story from day one: There are old people everywhere here. They're mostly volunteers helping out with the tournament. I hit my second shot on one hole over the green and underneath these old people's carts. So I'm walking up, and the old lady got out to move, but the old guy was still sitting in the cart. Want to know why? I'm gonna tell you anyway. He was putting his shirt on. I got to see a beautiful (puke) old man shirtless today. I did not order that with my nationals, thank you.

I didn't play my best today, but there are 3 more days to go out there, have fun, and try to beat this course because we all have nothing left to lose!

Did That Really Just Happen?

After being down 17 strokes after day 1 most people want to throw in the towel and give up, but there is something special about our team. We fought through every doubt, every raindrop and every robbed putt to win the 2010-2011 OAC Championship!

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to make up the 17-stroke deficit on Sunday, but I knew we weren’t going to let Otterbein go down without a fight or let ONU beat us by 6 strokes. Through out this season we have been taught to fight and to know that we are always in the running for 1^st place. Golf is a game of numbers and numbers don’t lie. Coach Strickland told me one day our team was going to be on the wall for winning an OAC championship, but I cannot believe that we actually did it! He put this team together and told me from the first tournament that we were going to Nationals, and I guess he doesn’t lie!! We couldn’t have done it without you Coach!

I also have to thank Coach Campbell for everything she has done for us this season! Starting as our coach midseason is rough, but she never let us down! Always making sure Big Red was comin’ in HOT and that we were treated well. OAC Coach of the Year??? I think YES!

This team is everything I have ever hoped for and I cannot wait to OWN IT during Nationals!!

Great Start to the Spring Season

Hello out there! So it's been a long time since anyone has blogged. Sorry about that. Spring break was awesome! There wasn't a terrential downpour (thank goodness) and the weather was fairly nice for us. We stayed in a house for the time we were there, which was great bonding time for the entire team. I feel as though we're all closer now that we've spent all that fun time together. I wish we could say we're undefeated, because we won our first tournament of the spring! However, we came in third at Capital this weekend. But that still leaves our record at 18-2, which is freaking awesome. We have a really good shot at winning OACs and going to nationals this year. I'm super excited because we've been having an excellent season with a lot of great golfers. Oh. P.S. We made an absolutely great Facebook video to the song Blow. P.P.S. Down kitty! (Ask Nicole)

Long time no blog!

Hi, everyone! Sorry that it's been so long since I've blogged! I actually think the last time I did was last year, but we'll pretend like that didn't happen. We've been staying busy as bees... or yellowjackets. We had a very, very successful fall season! Check out our record on the www.bw.edu webpage. We also welcomed in our new Head Coach, Alyson Campbell! She is awesome. :) We've been staying extra busy in our off-season too. Coach Campbell is a certified personal trainer, so we started out having 6:30 AM workouts and now we have 3:45 PM workouts twice a week. Morning workouts were awesome since we're all early birds (on opposite day). Needless to say, we're all staying in great shape and Coach has us working our tails/christmas cookies off! It'll all pay off when we claim our OAC title *fingers crossed*. :) We are now 11 days out from being Pinehurst, North Carolina bound! We will be leaving for our Spring Break trip on Saturday, March 5th and returning on Tuesday, March 8th. We will be playing a fellow Ohio team, Mount Union, while we're down south. It should be fun to see some familiar faces in a not-so-familiar state. :) We're really looking forward to the trip and the awesome house that we're staying in! Other than that, a few of us have been going to an indoor training facility with the men's team - it's a lot of fun and it's nice to be able to swing a club again! Weather wise, it's still snowing cats and dogs up here. We had a week of nice weather and surprisingly all of the snow melted and we were even driving with our windows down! But... it was too good to be true. 1 foot of snow, 18 degrees, and a huge ice storm later, it's Tuesday, February 22nd and Ohio weather is still terrible. That's all I've got for now! I promise to blog again before I graduate. Wait, I'm a senior?

GREAT JOB this weekend girls! :) we did pretty awesome. all of our adventures throughout the week were something else, especially emilee killing the goose, and little mirandas opponent continuing to step into the the gross water. who does such things? haha :) we all did great and for the team to only come behind the two ranked teams and top team from the OAC! We are going to kick butt this fall and spring and just for becca k "get that ring and send it to coach strickland" haha.

Adventures at Fowler's Mill

So the golf team has pretty much lived at Fowler's Mill this past week. We've been here Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and will be here tomorrow too.

The first story I have to tell you is about our practice round Thursday. The ninth hole on the Lake nine is this weirdo hole with a river down the middle of it, so it essentially has two fairways. I teed off, and dummy me goes in the water...or so I thought.

We walk down so I can drop my ball and see that there are three balls in the fairway, and one of them was only about 50 or 60 yards away from the green. Just for the heck of it, I go see who's ball it is. Lo and behold, it's my ball! Of course, Emily and Becca throw a fit about it. The funny thing is that we saw my ball splash in the middle of the river. And it just decided to hit some rocks or something just right and hop into the middle of the fairway. I guess it decided to be cat-like and hate water. Sometimes I wish more balls were like that.

And today was the first day of OAC's. As a team, we almost reached our goal for the season of a 360 or 370, which would be awesome. And with our super awesome rain gloves, we are so gonna be prepared for tomorrow's down pour. So bring it on, rain! I'm ready for you!

Never A Dull Moment

We set out on another BW Women’s Golf team adventure this weekend as we played in the Purple and White Capital tournament. Sadly we knew we were 2 short before we left, as both Nicole and Caci were sick and could not come L BUT we would like to thank Becca Jones for coming out and watching us for our second day!! The first day of the tournament was a tad rough for us, but filled with excitement the moment we stepped into the van!! Emily began to tell us about how she put a ring on her finger and had tried EVERYTHING she couldn’t get it off! Not knowing what to do at that time, Emily had to play the entire round with the ring, as her finger began to turn purple. After she basically played one of her BEST ROUNDS we knew the ring had to come off, and we started down the road to look for a place to buy some type of metal cutters. On our way there with a sudden stop, we came across a jewelers who we knew could get the job done. Once inside (and yes, the WHOLE team went in to witness this moment) they were able to help Emily and save the day! Still to this day Emily has a red mark around her finger. Like I said…Never a dull moment.

The Long Lost Blogger

HELLO, everyone! :) Long time, no talk... seriously! My apologies for taking so long and Coach, I finally remembered! A lot has happened since Christmas aka the last time I blogged, lol.

First of all, our spring break trip was amazing! I couldn't have asked for a better team to spend it with. We made so many memories, inside jokes and just really bonded as a team! Needless to say, it was a blast! And we were in Florida aka WARM AND SUNNY WEATHER (not something that happens in Ohio), so what more could you ask for?! It was really nice to get down there and get out on the course to kick off our spring season. And just for the record, I've never been so scared until I saw an alligator right by me on the course, lol. Seeing as I'm a really weird nature person and like to inspect things, the golf course was a great place to be. I saw all these cool birds, which thanks to Sam, I learned go under water for a few MINUTES! It's like they're fish-birds, haha. And we allllsooo saw a WOLF SPIDER!!! It was HUGEEE and the worker said it crawls into people's bags sometimes! The only thing was... it was fake, haha! We scared Coach and sent him a picture message. :) All in all, the trip was a great time and we're all looking forward to the next one!

Since then, we've been practicing and playing in tournaments. We have OACs on April 24th and 25th (which I didn't realize is so close), so we're getting ready for that. Last week I ended up with the stomach flu and a sinus infection out of the blue and couldn't play in the Capital tournament. :( Being sick got the best of Caci and I both, which we obviously weren't too happy about. This weekend we have a tournament on Sunday. We will be playing at Fowler's Mill, which is where OACs are being held this year. It's going to be nice to get on that course and start playing it a little more before the end of April. Spring season is flying by! We have very few days of class left then... i'll... be... a... SENIOR. :( :( AHHHHH! It's so scary!! But I'm going to enjoy the present because that's the best thing you can do! ALSO, we've been recruiting a lot and we are SUPER excited about the girls we have coming next year! YAY! It's going to be an awesome year!

MCU Tourney and Beautiful Weather

So, the title of this post is rather misleading, because beautiful weather was the exact opposite of the MCU Tournament. Sunday it was probably about 35 degrees and raining. I couldn't even move my fingers or feel anything at times because it was so cold. The course was super wet, too.

After we finished, Coach comes up to us and says "You guys survived!" Somehow while I was shivering I managed to roll my eyes and say "Yeah. Just barely."

I think it was a great time, tho. We had a good showing for our first Ohio tournament of the year. But if we keep having this rain during our tournaments, someone (me) isn't going to be a very happy camper. But I've gotten so used to playing in rain gear, so that's looking at it on the bright side.

I'm excited to get out there next weekend after this long weekend and kick some Capital Tournament butt. But first to get through Easter and this massive amount of homework I have. Wish me luck and have a great weekend!

I really cannot even begin to explain how AMAZING spring break was with the team! I feel we are closer than ever before and I cannot wait to go on more trips with these girls. Granted, we didn't play as well as we would have liked to both days, but when you play in the infamous Tampa monsoon what do you expect. I know our team likes to exaggerate and embellish our stories some times (lol) but LITERALLY there were times that we could not see 100 feet in front of us. Balls were being lost in the middle of the fairway! Oh and have you ever heard of casual water?? Well we were playing in CAUSAL LAKES!!!! But beyond all of the water, rain and horrible conditions, we had an awesome time.

Lastly, you know how when we play in the Cleveland area you worry about deer in the fairways…..WELL in Tampa you have to worry about ALLIGATORS!!!! Rob told us about this but we did NOT believe him UNTIL we started playing. Ugh….Seeing these creatures were NOT cool, but we knew with Emily’s running tactics we would get away from these beastly animals!

Spring Break and Thereafter

So...we left for Spring Break almost two weeks ago, which seems pretty insane. I mean, I was going to bed at like ten o'clock to get up and 4:45 in the morning to get to the airport at 5:30. Which is nothing compared to poor Emily and Nicole who were up at 2. And at that point, what point is there is actually going to sleep?

Anyway, after a great plane ride which Sam slept through the entire time, even through pictures, we landed in Tampa. Not as warm as I would like, but sooo much nicer than the snow-infested streets of Cleveland.

The tournament itself was interesting. There was discussion about different tactics of running away from alligators. There's Emily's version and Sam's version. You can pick who to believe, but my money is on Sam (no offense Em). After that, the rain came. Oh, the rain. It poured, and poured, and poured, adding to the already ridiculous amounts of water on the course. There were several times I thought the club was going to slip, but luckily it didn't, tho somehow my scorecard remained completely dry. Don't ask me how.

But then, after an entire day of pouring and still having to play, about ten minutes after we finish....lightning. Freaking. Lightning. After praying all day for it, it comes too late. So, in order to relax after my frustration and grieving, we took a trip down to the hot tub. It was the only option.

But overall I had a lot of fun with everyone. It was really a great time, and I think things can only get better because the weather sucked. And I don't think it can rain any harder up here.

SPRING BREAK!!

This year is flying by!! I can't even believe we have our first day of practice tomorrow, and we've already had our first tournament of the spring season! The spring break trip was a blast!!!! It was filled with golf, fun, food, some sunburn, and a monsoon. On tuesday we played a practice round at the course our tournament wed. and thursday was at...the weather was delightful; not too hot and not too cold. When we played on Wednesday, we enjoyed some WARM Florida sunshine! It was so nice but inflicted us all with some unpleasant sunburn! I'm not really going to touch on how i played...5 months off from golf is not a good thing...haha...anyways Thursday rolls around, and we are expecting RAIN! And it came! I can't believe we golfed in sooo much rain! It pouring! I was soaked through every piece of clothing i was wearing! But some how we all made it through and finished all 18 holes! Anyways, spring break was a blast, and i'm super pumped for spring season!!!!

I finally remembered to blog

We just got back from spring break in Tampa just a few days ago. The course had so much water I could swim from hole to hole; although with all the alligators we saw in the ponds surrounding all the holes, I'm pretty positive I wouldn't try it. We arrived on Monday and just relaxed for a few hours and then hit the driving range. Early Tuesday morning we had a preactice round, after which we went to a gorgeous outdoor mall called Wiregrass...I think. Wednesday was our first day of the tournament and luckily the weather was absolutely beautiful. I got fried. I was so red it looked like I belonged in the lobster tank at a seafood restaurant. After the first day of the tournament we went to Clearwater, which was a beach town on the Gulf of Mexico. We were supposed to go to the beach on Friday, our day off, but because of the rainy forecast we decided to go Wednesday since the weather was gorgeous. I had a great time walking into the various tourist shops and realxing on the beach. Thursday was a complete and total mess. I felt like I was in the middle of monsoon season. We all got soaked. Even though the conditions were awful, I still managed to take off 9 stokes from my previous day's score, go figure. After taking showers and drying off, the team went out for a really nice dinner, which was delicious. I can't remember the name of the restaurant though. Friday morning we got all packed into the van and went to the International Mall before heading to the airport. Because of all the bad weather our flight kept getting delayed, but we all eventaully made it home. :)

Counting Down The Days

Hey hey hey!!! So I can’t believe that break is over, we are back to school, and I have already finished my first semester of college! Last semester went by so fast but was really awesome (minus the homework lol). I know this semester is going to go really well and I am excited to take new classes. Now to the important stuff….GOLF!! This white, fluffy, cold stuff on the ground called snow is REALLY REALLY crampin’ my style and I do not like it! Snow makes practicing difficult and makes the walk to 8 am class even worse! We leave for Florida on March 6^th for our golf spring trip and I am counting down the days!! I miss everyone on the team soooo bad and I cannot wait to be with you all again! Happy 2010!

HELLO! :) Long time, no talk! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a great start to the new year. Break went by WAY too fast - I'm moving back to school in 3 days and I can't believe it! Spring semester is always more fun (in my opinion) and I'm really looking forward to it. Our spring season is quickly approaching... YAY!!! We will start working out as a team when we get back then before we know it, our spring break trip will be here! We are all super excited about it. I can't wait to swing a golf club... it might be kind of ugly at first, but it's going to be nice getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended haha!). Anyways, I hope Santa brought everyone some nice things this year! I got a New Moon calendar so that was pretty much awesome. :) I had a great time just being home with my family, friends and boyfriend - you can't ask for much more than that! I've been pretty bored lately - that's when you know it's time to go back to school! I've been pumping iron a lot lately... sooo, B-W golfers, you might no recognize me when you see me. I'm looking basically like a body builder these days.... haha, just kidding. My new years resolution this year is to not have a new years resolution - I decided to change it up a bit! I am also in the process of getting an internship for spring and/or summer! If anyone has an ideas, let me know! :) The big senior year is creeping up on me... yikes!! Well, I hope you all have a great end to the week and enjoy the weekend! YAY FOR 2010 and B-W GOLF!! :)

I'm finally blogging :)

So first off I'd like to apologize to all the avid blog readers who have been long awaiting my blog post, and I'd like to promise them that I will be more faithful about blogging the the future :) Anyways, since I hadn't blogged yet, I'll give a season overview...So we started practice pretty much right away as soon as school started up, and we had our first tournament a few weeks later. Our first tournament was our jacket invitational which we played a creekwood. Creekwood was an interesting course to say the least...there was this one par 3...the par 3 of death which is documented earlier in the blog. Then from then on out we had a tournament every weekend for about the next 4 weeks. We had a super fun season! On the road, in the van, and on the course, where ever we were, we had fun together. The switch from high school golf to college golf was a struggle for me this season. I had been used to all 9 hole matches from the women's tee, not 2 day 18 hole tournaments played from then men's tee. So that was a hard adjustment I had to make this fall which caused me to shoot high scores then I was used to getting in high school. But I have high hopes for the spring season, and I can't wait to be back out on the course with the team! :)

Leaves are falling, but spring is soon to come

This is the last weekend of the fall season. Wow. It's gone by so fast. Before I get all nostalgic, I'll tell you about the past couple weekends.

They have been a blast. The Heildelburg tournament wasn't too bad. The weather was kind of questionable and it was pretty cold in the mornings, but nothing too hard to handle. We're golfers. Come on. We can do anything.

Include survive coach's daughter in the swimming pool (in which Sam wore a bra. Thank God). Taryn is a little bundle of energy. Rebecca was yelling at me because I would let her win during pickle in the middle. Yes, Sam. PICKLE in the middle. Not monkey. But she was a lot of fun when she wasn't splashing water in my face and doing cannonballs right next to me. Like I said. Bundle of energy.

But aside from that, I've really started to enjoy our long car rides and hotel stays. They're actually a lot of fun, especially when we're in the middle of nowhere and we see goats chained up in people's front yards. We must note that that will probably be Caci in a few years.

I'm looking forward to this weekend and playing over in Erie despite the cold weather and craziness that that will be.

But now I must go off to do homework before practice. I have a fiction paper, english questions, and religion questions due tomorrow. Good stuff. And I'm going to see the Naked Plays tonight! Yay!

And....last but definitely not least...HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!!!!

Hi, everyone!! I can't believe our fall season is almost over!!! This is starting to make me feel old... before I know it, I'lll be a SENIOR... ahhh! =0! Anyways, this weekend is our last fall tourney at Gannon. I have high hopes of breaking my career-low (or around it at least). These past few weekends have been on some rough courses. Like Caci said, this past weekend was soooo weird. I shot a 59 on the back and a 47 on the front... YIKES!! But needless to say, we've been having oodles of fun! haha. Between Caci's hair looking so good 24/7, Coach saying "oh ma gawd", Sam's hedgehog and getting "warnings" by Coach Taryn... we've been having a blast. We're really growing as a team and everyone is learning each week on things that need improvement. For having such a young team that we do, we've started to learn and grow very quickly which I think is going to prepare us big time for the spring. In the meantime, we are practicing for this weekend. We'll be going to Erie, PA and I think we're having dinner at Em's!! That should be pretty cool. Speaking of Em, happy almost birthday (her birthday is tomorrow)!! :) Today we're off to the driving range since it's winter conditions outside (which I LOVE by the way... SIKE). Hoooopefully it will be nice for us this weekend! I don't want to play in the snow just YET haha. My teachers also love making everything due at once soooo I guess I'll probably move into the library within the next day or two... that should be fun. Well, I'm off to hit the books. Come out and watch us this weekend - we'll be coming in HOT!! :)
